Box Score Bangor, ME – The Eagles won 2-1 over Castleton State in a
battle of unbeaten NAC teams to move into sole possession of first
place. Megan Clement (So, Brunswick, ME) scored the game winning
goal for the Eagles.
After hitting the post on three different occasions, Husson final
got the game's first goal 20 minutes into the second half.
Clement fired a shot which Nakita Baldic (Sr, Cooperstown, NY) got
a hand on it but the shot bounced off the post and Megan LaJoie
fired the rebound home putting the Eagles up 1-0.
Clement found the net five minutes later to put Husson up 2-0.
Michelle Manning (So, Hampden, ME) threw the ball in at midfield to
Shelby Bradford (Jr, Lee, ME). Bradford carried to the edge of the
box making a crossing pass to Clement who put it in the right
corner past Baldic.
Castleton closed it to 2-1 as Kelly Gerken (Fy, Scottsville, NY)
headed a ball over Tatyana Wolterbeek (Sr, Wells, ME). Courtney
Chadburn (So, North Clarendon, VT) served a corner kick and Gerken
headed, Wolterbeed got a hand on it but it hit the inside of the
crossbar into the goal.
Wolterbeek kept the game scoreless as she knocked a ball away off a
Chadburn corner kick 15 minutes into the second half. Wolterbeek
finished with 6 saves on 9 shots. Baldic was under constant
pressure as she recorded 15 saves against 31 shots.
The first half saw both teams with numerous quality scoring
opportunities. Bradford hit the post on two occasions and Baldic
denied her a goal on two other occasions on quality saves.
Husson is moves to 5-0 in NAC play and 10-2 overall. Castleton
drops to 8-6 and 4-1 in the NAC.
The Eagles next play on Tuesday, October 14th as they host Bates
College at 4:00 pm. Castleton travels to Plymouth State on
Wednesday, October 15th at 1:00pm.
