LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its national pitcher and player of the week awards for softball on Tuesday and Husson University softball junior Ana Lang was selected as the Division III Wilson/NFCA National Pitcher of the Week.
Lang becomes the first player in Husson softball history to earn the award after she also picked up pitcher of the week honors for both the Maine College Baseball and Softball Association and the North Atlantic Conference. Lang was tabbed pitcher of the week for a fourth time this season, including a third-straight time for both the North Atlantic Conference and MCBSA after she was dominant for No. 20 Husson in a 6-0 week of action in NAC play, as the junior surpassed the 500 strikeout mark for her career, in addition to moving into second-place all-time for Husson softball in career strikeouts. Lang totaled 25 innings pitched over five appearances, making four starts, as she recorded an unreal 57 strikeouts on the week, as she gave up just nine hits and five walks, in addition to just two earned runs. Lang's most dominant performance of the week came in a doubleheader sweep of SUNY Cobleskill, as she began in game one with a complete-game shutout, posting a career-high 17 strikeouts and allowing just one hit and one walk. Lang concluded the day with a four-inning outing in game two of the twin bill, where struck out 11 hitters over four innings of relief, as she picked up her 17th win of the season.
No. 20 Husson returns to action tomorrow when it hits the road for a NAC doubleheader at the University of Maine-Presque Isle, beginning at 12 p.m.
