King sets single-season stolen base record in No. 20 softball’s NAC sweep of UMPI

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The No. 20 Husson University softball team extended its dominant season on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader against the University of Maine at Presque Isle by scores of 18-0 and 10-0.

Husson junior Camryn King swiped her 41st bag of the season in game two of the twinbill, surpassing the Husson softball single-season program record for stolen bases.

Game 1: No. 20 Husson 18, UMaine Presque Isle (5 Innings)
In game one, Husson (30-4, 13-0 NAC) wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for seven runs in the opening inning. After junior Camryn King singled and created havoc on the bases with multiple steals, the Eagles capitalized on pressure and miscues to jump out in front. Freshman Jetta Shook drove in the game's first run on a fielder's choice before senior Tayler Watterson followed with an RBI single. Senior Emily Dunbar added an RBI groundout, and Husson continued to pile on as King later delivered a two-run single to cap the inning and make it 7-0.

The Eagles kept the momentum going in the second inning, manufacturing three more runs. Watterson scored on a wild pitch before King delivered again with a two-run single to push the lead to 10-0. Husson broke the game wide open in the third inning, plating five runs behind timely hitting and continued pressure. Dunbar drove in a run with a single, freshman Lilly Snow followed with a two-run base hit, and King highlighted the frame with a two-run home run to center, extending the advantage to 15-0.

Husson added three more runs in the fifth inning to reach the final 18-0 margin. King led the offensive attack with a perfect 5-for-5 performance, driving in six runs and scoring twice. Sophomore Allie Casavant reached base four times and scored four runs, while Snow contributed two hits and two RBIs.

In the circle, junior Ana Lang earned the win with three scoreless innings, striking out five, while junior Jazmin Johnson closed out the game with two shutout innings. The Eagles limited UMPI (13-17, 7-6 NAC) to just two hits in the opener.

Game 2: No. 20 Husson 10, UMaine Presque Isle 0 (5 Innings)
Game two followed a similar script, with Husson (31-4, 14-0 NAC) striking early and never looking back in a 10-0 victory.

The Eagles opened the scoring in the first inning when senior Morgan Tainter singled and senior Lydia Rice drove her in with an RBI triple to right field. Husson broke the game open in the third inning, scoring five runs on a series of extra-base hits and home runs. Rice started the surge with a two-run home run to left, Dunbar followed with a two-run homer to center, and freshman Sophia Lynch added a solo shot to make it 6-0.

Husson added four more runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. After Watterson and Dunbar reached base, Casavant launched a three-run home run, and Lynch followed immediately with her second home run of the game to extend the lead to 10-0.

Rice finished with three RBIs, while Lynch recorded a multi-home run game with two long balls and two RBIs. Casavant and Dunbar also homered as part of a powerful offensive showing that saw Husson tally 13 hits and match the single-game program record for home runs in a game with five long balls.

Lang was again dominant in the circle, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out eight to secure her 19th win of the season.
