BANGOR, Maine — The No. 20 Husson University softball team continued its dominant season on Saturday afternoon, sweeping a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader against Lesley University at home. The Eagles captured game one, 13-0, before closing out the day with an 11-0 victory to improve to 33-4 overall.
Game 1: No. 20 Husson 13, Lesley 0 (5 Innings)
Husson (32-4, 15-0 NAC) wasted no time asserting control in the opener, plating five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Camryn King sparked the rally by reaching base and swiping both second and third before scoring on a sacrifice fly from senior Morgan Tainter. Later in the inning, freshman Braelynn Wilcox delivered a three-run double to right field, and sophomore Allie Casavant followed with an RBI double to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Eagles added three more runs in the second inning. King tripled to open the frame and came home on a wild pitch before senior Tayler Watterson drove in a pair with a double to left center, pushing the advantage to 8-0. Husson broke the game open in the third inning, highlighted by King's inside-the-park three-run home run that stretched the lead to 11-0. Senior Lydia Rice later came around to score in the inning, making it 12-0.
Husson tacked on one final run in the fourth as King recorded her fourth RBI of the game with another sacrifice fly, bringing the final score to 13-0.
King paced the Eagles with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, scoring three times and driving in four runs while adding two stolen bases. Wilcox finished with three RBIs, while Watterson and Casavant each contributed multi-hit efforts.
In the circle, junior Ana Lang was dominant, striking out seven over three hitless innings to earn her 20th win of the season, tying the single-season program record. Fellow juniors Sierra Yates and Jazmin Johnson each tossed a scoreless inning to complete the combined no-hitter for Husson.
Game 2: No. 20 Husson 11, Lesley 0 (5 Innings)
In game two, Husson (33-4, 16-0 NAC) once again jumped out early, scoring in the bottom of the first inning. King reached base and stole her way into scoring position before Tainter brought her home with an RBI single up the middle.
The Eagles added to their lead in the second inning. Watterson singled to begin the rally before Casavant doubled down the left field line to drive in a run. Freshman Liv Noyes followed with an RBI single to make it 3-0.
After a scoreless third, Husson put the game out of reach with an explosive eight-run fourth inning. Freshman Sophia Lynch ignited the rally with a two-run home run to left field. Noyes followed with a triple and later scored on an RBI single from King. Senior Morgan Curtis added a sacrifice bunt to bring home another run before senior Emily Dunbar delivered a two-run single. Lynch capped the inning with a two-run double, extending the lead to 11-0.
Lynch led the offensive effort in the nightcap with four RBIs, while Dunbar added two RBIs on a pair of hits. Noyes collected two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run. King continued her strong day at the top of the lineup, scoring twice and stealing four bases.
In the circle, Wilcox earned the win with four shutout innings, allowing just three hits. Yates entered in relief and tossed a scoreless fifth inning to secure the shutout.
Prior to the start of the game, Husson honored its senior class of Lydia Rice, Morgan Tainter, Tayler Watterson, Emily Dunbar and Morgan Curtis, who concludes their four-year run unbeaten in NAC games, totaling a 46-0 record over the past four seasons.
The Eagles now turn their attention to the North Atlantic Conference tournament, which will begin on Thursday, May 7.
