LEWISTON, Maine – The Husson University women's track & field team turned in a number of strong performances at the Maine State Meet, hosted by Bates College on Saturday, with the Eagles posting scoring efforts on the track, in the relays and in several field events.
Husson opened the meet in the 100 meters, where senior Niamiah Perry led the Eagles with a personal-best time of 12.97 seconds. Freshman JaLynn Williams followed in 13.40 seconds, while freshman Izzie Enos crossed in 14.74 seconds.
In the 200 meters, Molly Dearborn represented Husson and posted a time of 27.92 seconds and Dearborn also competed in the 400 meters and finished in 1:04.61.
Husson then moved into the 800 meters, where freshman Brooke Martin recorded a personal-best time of 2:50.71.
In the 1,500 meters, freshman Lucinda Carroll paced the Eagles with a time of 5:32.10, while junior Abby Hunt followed in 5:55.58 to set a new personal-best.
In the hurdles, Perry led the Eagles in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.19 seconds. Freshman Mya Madden followed in a personal-best time of 17.33 seconds, sophomore Brianna Andrews ran 19.16 seconds and senior Lexi Freeman finished in 19.20 seconds.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Husson produced one of its best events of the meet, as senior Grace Bedore placed third in 13:11.82 to score six team points, while freshman Nina Huber took fourth in 13:57.06 for five more points.
Husson also scored in the relays. The 4x100-meter relay team of Perry, Williams, sophomore Natasha Monreal and Dearborn finished second in 51.09 seconds to earn eight points.
In the high jump, Madden and Williams each cleared 1.38 meters, as Husson added another point in the pole vault, where Andrews cleared 2.70 meters to place eighth and set a new personal-best. Freeman also competed in the event and cleared 2.55 meters.
The Eagles were active in the horizontal jumps as well. In the long jump, Perry posted a DIII New England qualifying and personal-best leap of 5.12 meters, Monreal followed with another DIII New England qualifying mark of 5.07 meters, Madden reached 4.73 meters and Williams recorded a jump of 4.67 meters. In the triple jump, Williams earned three points with a sixth-place finish and a DIII New England qualifying mark of 10.77 meters. Perry added an eighth-place, DIII New England qualifying leap of 10.64 meters for one point, while Monreal posted a mark of 10.32 meters, Andrews reached 9.71 meters and Madden added a 9.67-meter effort, as Williams, Perry, Andrews and Madden all set a new personal-best in the event.
In the throwing events, sophomore Paige Chesbro led Husson in the shot put with a mark of 8.75 meters. Freshman Kallie Bartley followed at 8.51 meters to set a new personal-best, while sophomore Danlen Espenscheid threw 7.25 meters.
Chesbro also led the Eagles in the discus with a throw of 30.84 meters. Espenscheid added a mark of 26.66 meters, senior Megan Fletcher reached 23.90 meters, Enos threw 17.10 meters and Bartley posted a mark of 15.10 meters.
In the hammer throw, Fletcher turned in one of Husson's top performances of the weekend, placing fifth with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 40.10 meters to score four points. Chesbro added an eighth-place throw of 38.87 meters for one point and a new personal-best, while Espenscheid posted a mark of 17.26 meters.
Husson closed the meet in the javelin, where junior Abigail Conlogue placed sixth with a DIII New England qualifying throw of 33.83 meters to score three points. Enos followed with a mark of 23.51 meters, Bartley threw 17.88 meters to set a new personal-best, Chesbro reached 15.82 meters and Bedore posted a mark of 14.94 meters.
The Eagles will look to carry that momentum into their next meet as the outdoor season continues next weekend with the North Atlantic Conference Championships set to take place on Saturday and Sunday at the University of Maine at Orono.
