DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Husson University women's track & field team posted a number of solid efforts on Saturday at the Embry-Riddle Eagle Invite, competing against a deep field at Emby-Riddle in Daytona Beach, Florida in its first meet of the outdoor season.
Husson opened the day in the sprint events with senior Niamiah Perry finishing 30th in the 100 meters in a personal-best time of 13.18 seconds, while sophomore Molly Dearborn followed in 31st in 13.23 seconds and sophomore Brianna Andrews placed 39th in 14.28 seconds, as both athletes also set new personal-bests. In the 200 meters, Dearborn led the Eagles with a 20th-place finish in 27.96 seconds, while Perry was 23rd in 28.25 seconds, which set a new personal-best.
In the middle-distance events, freshman Lucinda Carroll paced Husson in the 800 meters, finishing 22nd in 2:39.49, while junior Abby Hunt placed 26th in 3:11.97. Carroll also led the Eagles in the 1500 meters, crossing in 5:24.92 to finish 21st. Freshman Brooke Martin added a 29th-place finish in 6:16.70, while Hunt came in 30th in 6:35.57. In the 5000 meters, senior Grace Bedore represented Husson and placed 17th in 22:10.23.
The Eagles also competed in the 4x100-meter relay, where the quartet of Andrews, sophomore Natasha Monreal, Perry and Dearborn finished seventh in 52.20 seconds.
Husson had a strong showing in the horizontal jumps. In the long jump, Monreal placed 10th with a leap of 4.89 meters, while Perry was 11th at a personal-best distance of 4.83 meters and Andrews finished 17th with a mark of 4.49 meters. Monreal followed that with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump, recording a mark of 10.36 meters.
In the throws, senior Megan Fletcher turned in one of Husson's top performances of the day. Fletcher placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 9.70 meters, while freshman Kallie Bartley finished 11th at 8.14 meters and senior Allyson Dearborn was 13th with a mark of 7.69 meters.
Sophomore Paige Chesbro led Husson in the discus with a 10th-place finish on a throw of 30.06 meters. Fletcher followed in 13th at 24.03 meters, Bartley placed 15th with a mark of 20.29 meters and Dearborn finished 17th at 15.05 meters.
In the hammer throw, Fletcher posted another strong result, finishing fourth overall with a mark of 40.22 meters, while Chesbro added a ninth-place finish at 34.20 meters to allow both athletes to clear their previous personal-bests.
The Eagles closed out the field events in the javelin, where Fletcher placed eighth with a personal-best throw of 27.40 meters. Dearborn added a mark of 19.12 meters (62-9) to place 14th.
Husson concludes its spring trip next weekend with the SEU Fire Invitational on Friday and Saturday, hosted by Southeastern University.
