SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Husson University women's track & field team took part in the Yellow Jacket Open on Saturday, with the Eagles turning in a number of strong performances in track and field events at American International.
Husson opened the day in the 100 meters, where sophomore Natasha Monreal led the Eagles with a sixth-place finish in 13.76 seconds. Freshman JaLynn Williams followed in seventh with a time of 13.78 seconds, sophomore Molly Dearborn placed 11th in 13.98 seconds and senior Niamiah Perry finished 15th in 14.39 seconds.
In the 200 meters, Dearborn posted Husson's top finish by taking 13th in 28.63 seconds. Perry was 15th in 29.27 seconds, freshman Brooke Martin placed 19th in 31.22 seconds, freshman Nina Huber came in 21st in 32.03 seconds, junior Olivia Underwood finished 23rd in 32.27 seconds and freshman Mya Madden was 25th in 32.47 seconds.
Dearborn also represented Husson in the 400 meters and placed 15th with a time of 1:09.47, while junior Abby Hunt came in 28th in 1:20.62, which set a new personal-best in the event.
The Eagles then competed in the 800 meters, where Huber finished ninth in 2:51.65 and Underwood placed 12th in 3:05.30. In the 1,500 meters, Hunt recorded a 12th-place finish with a time of 6:08.79.
Perry scored for the Eagles in the 100-meter hurdles with a sixth-place finish in 18.10 seconds, while Madden followed in eighth at 18.30 seconds.
Freshman Brooke Martin posted one of the team's best finishes of the meet in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, taking second in 14:17.02, clearing a new personal-best mark.
The Eagles' 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Brianna Andrews, Dearborn, Monreal and Williams finished fourth overall with a time of 55.40.
In the field events, Madden turned in a runner-up finish in the high jump after clearing 1.45 meters to set a new personal-best.
In the long jump, Monreal placed third with a mark of 4.99 meters, Williams finished fifth at 4.76 meters and Perry took 14th with a jump of 4.12 meters.
Monreal added another strong result in the triple jump, placing third with a leap of 9.84 meters. Andrews finished fifth with a mark of 9.29 meters.
In the shot put, freshman Kallie Bartley led Husson with a 25th-place throw of 7.77 meters. Sophomore Danlen Espenscheid followed in 31st at 7.21 meters.
The Eagles were well represented in the discus, where sophomore Paige Chesbro posted a fifth-place finish with a throw of 31.12 meters and senior Megan Fletcher followed in sixth at 28.83 meters. Espenscheid placed 10th with a personal-best mark of 25.73 meters, junior Abigail Conlogue finished 20th at 19.83 meters, freshman Izzie Enos took 23rd with a throw of 17.13 meters and Bartley came in 25th at 16.64 meters.
Fletcher then delivered one of Husson's top performances of the day in the hammer throw, finishing second with a toss of 39.47 meters. Chesbro added a seventh-place finish at 34.18 meters, while Conlogue placed 15th with a mark of 29.45 meters.
Husson closed the meet with a standout effort in the javelin, where Conlogue won the event with a throw of 33.69 meters. Enos added an eighth-place finish at 19.35 meters and Bartley placed 13th with a personal-best mark of 13.14 meters.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday when they compete in the Black Bear Meet at the New Balance Outdoor Track & Field Complex at the University of Maine.
