Women’s tennis sweeps NAC weekly awards

WATERVILLE, Maine – The North Atlantic Conference unveiled its weekly awards for women's tennis on Monday and Husson University swept the honors.

Senior Julia Barber was named player of the week after she went a combined 4-0 on the week in singles and doubles matches in a non-conference win against Thomas College and a NAC victory over SUNY Delhi. Barber picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win in singles over Thomas, while teaming with senior Joey Lynn Ramsdell for a 6-4 win on the doubles side. Against SUNY Delhi, Barber won 6-2, 6-0 in singles, while she and Ramsdell picked up a 6-1 win in doubles.

Freshman Katelyn Cotter was named rookie of the week for a third-straight week, as she continued her impressive rookie season as an Eagle with four combined wins over the week for Husson against Thomas College and SUNY Delhi. Cotter picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win in singles against Thomas, while combining with freshman Sadie May for a 7-5 win in the doubles match. Against SUNY Delhi, Cotter did not drop a game in either singles or doubles, winning 6-0, 6-0 in singles, in addition to a 6-0 win with May in doubles.

Barber and Ramsdell took home doubles team of the week after going a perfect 2-0 on the week in a pair of matches. The duo won 6-4 in No. 1 singles against Thomas College, while taking a 6-1 victory over SUNY Delhi in NAC play on Saturday.

Husson returns to action on Friday when it hosts the University of New England at 3:30 p.m.
