BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University Athletics Department has announced the hiring of Jeff Courtney as the school's next head women's tennis coach.

Courtney brings more than 40 years of experience as a competitive player, coach, and teaching professional to the Husson University women's tennis program.

"I am incredibly honored and humbled to be named the Head Women's Tennis Coach at Husson University," said Courtney. "Tennis has been a part of my life for more than 40 years, and I have been fortunate to experience the game as a player, coach, instructor, and mentor. To have the opportunity to lead a collegiate program in my hometown is truly special. I am grateful to Husson University for its confidence in me and excited to help our student athletes reach their full potential—both on the court and in the classroom. My goal is to build a program based on hard work, integrity, accountability, and a genuine love for the game. I look forward to working with our student-athletes, alumni, and the greater Bangor community as we continue to grow the success and tradition of Husson Women's Tennis."

A Bangor High School All-American and former University of Maine standout, Courtney was a two-time All-New England regional selection, two-time team captain, and the Black Bears' No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles player for his four seasons. He was consistently ranked among New England's top open players and competed in three USTA National Championships.

Throughout his coaching career, Courtney has helped develop numerous championship-caliber athletes, including six Maine state singles champions, and was a member of Bangor High School's 2002 Class A Boys State Championship coaching staff. As the founder of Bangor Parks & Recreation's "Tennis in the Park" program and a longtime teaching professional at Armstrong Tennis Center, he has played a significant role in growing the game of tennis throughout the Bangor region. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, he was named the USPTA/RSPA Maine Tennis Professional of the Year in 2018.

"We are thrilled to welcome Jeff as the next head coach of our women's tennis program," said Executive Director of Athletics Christopher Parsons. "Jeff brings a tremendous wealth of experience as a player, coach, instructor, and mentor, along with a deep passion for developing student-athletes. His lifelong commitment to the sport of tennis, proven success in cultivating championship-caliber players, and strong ties to the Bangor community make him an outstanding fit for Husson University. Throughout the search process, it became clear that Jeff's values align perfectly with our mission of providing an exceptional student-athlete experience centered on competitive excellence, academic achievement, and personal growth. We are excited for the future of Husson Women's Tennis under his leadership and look forward to the positive impact he will have on our student-athletes and the program as a whole."

Courtney lives in Bangor with his wife and their three sons. He remains committed to developing student-athletes through competitive excellence, leadership, sportsmanship, and academic success.
