SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – A classic cold and rainy day in April had the Husson University men's golf team battling all day on day one of the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational at the Ballston Spa Country Club in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Husson posted a team score of 292 in the opening round to place them in fourth out of the 20 teams with Amherst College leading the field with a score of 280.
Sophomore Jace Cook led the Eagles individually after the first round by shooting under par for the first time in his career with a one-under, 70, which was good for ninth-place on the individual leaderboard.
Graduate students Jack King and Max Woodman followed close behind Cook with a pair of two-over, 73s.
Fellow fifth-year Chris Kauppila fought the tough conditions and fired a five-over, 76, while classmate Will Kavanaugh shot a 10-over, 81, as the team continued to try to polish off the winter rust.
Sophomore Juan Carlos Hernandez played as an individual, not counting towards the team score, and shot a solid five-over, 76.
The Eagles return to the links tomorrow for the final round of the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational with first tee shots beginning at 10 a.m.
