ORONO, Maine – The Husson University women's track & field team continued its indoor season with the UMaine Black Bear Invitational on Friday at the New Balance Field House in Orono.
Freshman JaLynn Williams delivered a strong showing on the track, placing fourth in the 60 meters finals with a time of 8.24 seconds while earning a Division III New England provisional qualifying mark. Williams followed that effort with an impressive victory in the 200 meters, crossing the line first in 27.78 seconds to lead the Eagles. Sophomore Molly Dearborn added to Husson's success in the event with a runner-up finish in 29.11.
Middle-distance action was highlighted by freshman Lucinda Carroll, who placed sixth overall in the 600 meters with a time of 1:49.67 to score points for the Eagles. Freshmen Nina Huber and Brooke Martin, and junior Abby Hunt also competed for Husson in the event, with Hunt setting a personal-best time. Martin returned later in the meet to earn a fourth-place finish in the 1,000 meters, posting a time of 3:53.35.
Husson made an impact in the hurdles, as senior Lexi Freeman finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.92 seconds, while sophomore Brianna Andrews followed closely in third at 12.00, which was a new personal-best time. The Eagles also found success in the relays, with the 4x200 relay team of Dearborn, Freeman, sophomore Natasha Monreal, and Williams placing second overall in 1:57.23. In the distance medley relay, the Husson quartet of Huber, Dearborn, Hunt, and Carroll placed fifth.
Field events provided additional highlights for the Eagles. Monreal earned a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.20 meters, achieving a Division III New England provisional qualifying standard, while Williams added a fifth-place result in the event with a jump of 5.01 meters, also meeting the provisional mark. Monreal continued her strong day in the triple jump, placing second with a mark of 10.09 meters.
In the vertical jumps, Freeman placed second in the pole vault after clearing 2.55 meters, while Andrews followed in third at 2.25 meters. Husson's throwers closed out the meet with solid performances, led by senior Megan Fletcher's fourth-place finish in the shot put at 9.30 meters. Fletcher also added a fourth-place showing in the weight throw with a mark of 12.42 meters, while sophomore Paige Chesbro and junior Abigail Conlogue placed fifth and seventh in the same event and both athletes set new personal-bests.
The Eagles will return to action in the spring semester when they head to Bates College for the Bates Invitational and Multi at Merrill Gymnasium on Jan. 16 and 17.
