WATERVILLE, Maine – The North Atlantic Conference unveiled its preseason coaches poll results for men's basketball on Wednesday and Husson University men's basketball was chosen to successfully defend its conference title.
The two-time defending NAC champions, Husson received 98 out of a possible 100 points in the poll, including eight out of 10 first-place votes, while the University of Maine-Presque Isle picked up the other two first-place tallies and 86 total points to record a second-place finish.
Last year's NAC East Division runners-up, the University of Maine at Farmington were slotted to finish in third with 71 total points, while Maine Maritime Academy was selected fourth by the coaches with 65 total points.
The NAC runners-up from last season, Vermont State University Johnson, were elected fifth with 58 points, while SUNY Delhi finished in sixth with 49 points and Thomas College was chosen seventh with 36 points.
The rankings were rounded out by Vermont State University Lyndon (34), Lesley University (31) and SUNY Cobleskill (22).
The Eagles will look to win their third-consecutive league title and fourth in the past five seasons when they open their season with the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Monday at 6 p.m.
