BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University men's basketball team added another talented recruit to its 2024-25 recruiting class on Thursday. Dylan Burpee a 6-5 wing has committed to attend Husson in the Fall. Burpee is a highly decorated Maine basketball player from Southern Aroostook High School.
Under the direction of Brett Russell, head coach at Southern Aroostook, Burpee was a part of two Class D State Championships during his sophomore and junior seasons. This past season Southern Aroostook finished 12-6 in the regular season and advanced to the Class D North semifinals. Burpee led the team with 27.9 points, 11.4 rebounds, four assists and 4.6 steals per game.
"Dylan had an incredible high school career. He is a great shooter and at his size that translates well to the college game," said head men's basketball coach Warren Caruso. "Dylan is a well-rounded student athlete with a very good skill set, he is a great addition to the Husson Community".
Burpee racked up numerous awards in his career. The 1,000-point scorer was named to the Bangor Daily News All-Tournament Team and All-Aroostook team three years straight (22, 23, 24). The Mr. Maine Basketball semi-finalist was named the MVP of the Class C/D McDonalds All-Star game as well as the Aroostook All-Star game. He was also named to the BDN honorable mention All-State team.
Burpee is active in his community and at SAHS. At SAHS he is in the National Honor Society and is a class officer. He is also a part of the student council. He was named a Aroostook County Senior Athlete Scholar.
Outside of school, Burpee volunteers at Good Shepard Food Bank and Southern Aroostook Community Day. Additionally, he volunteers at a local church assisting in loading coal into heat sources. In the summer, he has worked at the Southern Aroostook basketball camps.
Burpee joins Jayson Higgins from Sunset Mountain High School in Peoria, Arizona and Conor Heald from Cardinal Mooney High School in Saratoga, Florida in this year's recruiting class.
The Eagles finished the season 23-6, winning the NAC Conference Tournament Championship and advancing to the NCAA National Tournament. The Eagles have won nine out of the last 14 NAC tournaments and three out of the last five.
