STANDISH, Maine — Freshman
Grace Bedore highlighted an impressive afternoon for the Husson University women's track & field team who finished fifth at the Maine State Championships on Saturday.
The Eagles began the afternoon with three runners placing in the 3000-meter steeplechase including Bedore who won the event with a time of 13:23.47, breaking her previous-best time of 14:03.85 by over 40 seconds, while senior
Isabelle Jackson finished third with a mark of 14:09.76, also posting a personal-best and sophomore
Emma Abbott clocked a 14:09.80 to finish fourth.
In the 4x100-meter relay, Husson's all-freshman team of
Niamiah Perry,
Madalynn Hubbard,
Angelina Cotoni and
Addi Laslie finished fourth with a time of 52.53.
Perry also turned in a podium performance in the 100-meter hurdles finishing fourth with a time of 17.44 setting a personal-best in the process, while Cotoni clocked a 17.47 to finish fifth and senior
Willow Whitten recorded a sixth-place showing with a 17.53.
Senior
Payton Goodwin ran to a third-place finish in the 800 meters, posting a time of 2:22.88, while fellow senior
Norah Garvey recorded a time of 1:12.07 to finish sixth in the 400-meter hurdles.
Laslie finished seventh in the 200-meter dash for the Eagles, clocking a time of 28.37 while helping Husson's 4x400 relay team of Goodwin, Garvey and Whitten finish third with a mark of 4:24.54.
Goodwin also posted a fourth-place performance in the long jump, clearing 4.99 meters while junior
Quinn Young cleared 9.80 meters in the triple jump to finish seventh.
Freshman Nine Gregory also recorded a seventh-place finish on the day for the Eagles, clearing 1.42 meters in the high jump, while Cotoni cleared 2.80 meters in the pole vault to post a fifth-place effort, breaking her previous personal-best of 2.65 meters.
The Eagles will now turn their attention to defending their North Atlantic Conference title this coming weekend.
