Morgan Tainter went deep in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader to help the Husson University softball team beat Gordon College 11-0 after falling 2-1 to the United States Coast Guard Academy in game one.
Coast Guard (5-0) benefited from two runs in the third inning to take a 2-0 advantage over Husson (3-5) in game one of Tuesday's double header.
The Eagles got a run back in the fifth inning when sophomore
Kiara McLeod singled up the middle to score freshman
Angelina Fucci. Husson would out hit Coast Guard 6-5, but the Bears made the most of their five hits, edging the Eagles 2-1.
In game two of the afternoon, Husson's bats came alive helping freshman
Emily Rerick earn her first collegiate victory.
Husson wasted little time getting on the board, benefiting from a Raymond homerun in the first inning for an early 1-0 lead.
The Eagles added to their advantage in the second inning when Tainter clubbed her first collegiate homerun to center field scoring three runs on the play and pushing the lead to 4-0.
Husson added two more runs in the inning to take a 6-0 lead, scoring off junior
Jess Pomerleau's RBI bunt single and another RBI from McLeod.
Pomerleau plated her second run of the game in the third inning, while sophomore
Tatyanna Biamby got in on the scoring action also in the third with an RBI single.
Freshman
Tayler Watterson kept the third inning scoring alive with two RBI single to right field as the Eagles tallied five runs in the third inning to push their advantage to 11-0.
Rerick tossed three, three-hit innings, not allowing a run and striking out three to earn the win while fellow freshman
Danielle Masterson also struck out three batters over two innings scattering three hits.
Husson returns back to the Diamond on Thursday when it battles Kenyon College at 9 a.m. followed by Catholic University at 11:30 a.m.
