LEWISTON, Maine — Husson University women's track & field senior
Payton Goodwin broke her own program record in the 800 meters on Saturday at the Maine State Championships hosted by Bates College. Both Goodwin and sophomore
Ava Dowling qualified for New England's in the 800 meters, while the team put together an afternoon of personal bests.
Freshman
Addi Laslie began the Eagles fifth-place showing at states with a seventh-place performance in the 60 meters with a time of 8.50. While senior
Willow Whitten finished sixth in the 400 meters with a mark of 1:05.59.
Junior
Miranda Dunton paced the Eagles to a fifth-place showing in the 600 meters with a time of 1:49.33, setting a personal-record in the event. Dunton later finished seventh in the 3,000 meters with a mark of 11:36.06, breaking her previous personal record of 11:37.89 set earlier this season.
Husson put together it's most impressive showing of the championships in the 800 meters, with two Eagles finishing inside the top eight, paced by Goodwin's third-place finish with a time of 2:25.41. Sophomore
Ava Dowling finished seventh overall with a mark of 2:28.47. Goodwin's time of 2:25.41 broke her own 800 record set at the Bates Invitational on Jan. 21. Additionally, Dowling set a personal-record in the event, also breaking the previous program record.
In the 4x200-meter relay Husson finished fifth overall with a time of 1:56.68 as the team of freshmen
Angelina Cotoni, Laslie,
Niamiah Perry and
Johanna Stiles ran the ninth-fastest time in program history.
Dowling, Goodwin, Whitten and senior
Norah Garvey finished fourth in the 4x400 with a time of 4:27.09, breaking their own time of 4:28.14 for the third-fastest 4x400 time in program history.
The Eagles continued their strong afternoon with a sixth-place performance in the 4x800 relay as the team of Dunton, freshman
Grace Bedore,
Nina Gregory and senior
Isabelle Jackson posted a time of 11:28.64 for the third-fastest time in school history.
Cotoni finished fifth in the pole vault with a height of 2.55 meters, setting a personal record in the event. While Goodwin cleared 4.92 meters in the long jump to finish seventh, setting a personal record to complete the Eagles afternoon.
Husson closes out the indoor portion to its track & field season on Feb. 12 at the Frozen 8 Championship in Boston, Massachusetts.
