Perry, Conlogue lead women’s track & field at Monks Invitational

STANDISH, Maine – The Husson University women's track & field team turned in a strong all-around showing Saturday at the Monks Track & Field Invite, hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine in Standish, with the Eagles posting multiple event wins and top finishes throughout the meet.

Husson opened the day with a dominant performance in the 100 meters, claiming three of the top four spots. Senior Niamiah Perry led the field with a first-place time of 13.10 seconds, while freshman JaLynn Williams finished second in 13.28, as both athletes set a new personal-best in the event and sophomore Molly Dearborn took fourth in 13.35. Freshman Izzie Enos also competed for the Eagles and crossed in 14.72.

In the 200 meters, Williams added another top-three finish by taking third in 27.70 seconds. Perry followed in sixth at 28.85, and freshman Nina Huber also represented Husson with a time of 32.29.

Junior Abby Hunt was Husson's lone competitor in the 800 meters and placed 10th in 3:11.14.

In the 1,500 meters, Huber turned in a seventh-place finish with a time of 5:53.00.

Perry continued her strong day in the hurdles, placing second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.34. Freshman Mya Madden followed in fourth at 17.94 to set a new personal-best, while sophomore Brianna Andrews took fifth in 18.84.

Husson added three more scorers in the 400-meter hurdles, led by Dearborn's third-place finish in 1:23.13. Senior Lexi Freeman was right behind in fourth at 1:24.11, and freshman Brooke Martin placed sixth in 1:34.23.

The Eagles then posted a strong showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, where Martin won the event in 13:44.52. Hunt placed fourth in 14:51.70, and Freeman added a fifth-place finish in 15:51.43.

Husson's 4x100 relay team of Williams, Dearborn, sophomore Natasha Monreal, and Perry claimed first place with a time of 51.28 seconds, in addition to setting a new program record for the Eagles.

In the high jump, Madden cleared 1.39 meters to finish 12th overall and Williams and Monreal each cleared 1.34 meters.

Freeman added a third-place finish in the pole vault after clearing 2.45 meters, while Andrews was fourth at 2.30 meters, eclipsing a new personal-best.

In the long jump, Monreal led Husson with a fifth-place mark of 4.92 meters. Perry and Madden each posted jumps of 4.41 meters, Williams reached 4.34 meters, and Andrews recorded a mark of 4.26 meters.

Monreal followed with another top-five finish in the triple jump, placing fourth with a leap of 10.40 meters. Andrews also scored for Husson, finishing ninth at 9.50 meters.

In the throwing events, Senior Megan Fletcher paced the Eagles in the shot put with an eighth-place throw of 9.97 meters. Sophomore Paige Chesbro followed with a mark of 8.88 meters, while freshman Kallie Bartley threw 8.01 meters, sophomore Danlen Espenscheid recorded 7.61 meters, and senior Allyson Dearborn posted a 6.97-meter effort.

In the discus, Chesbro led Husson with a ninth-place throw of 27.59 meters. Fletcher followed at 26.52 meters, Espenscheid added a mark of 25.73 meters, Dearborn threw 19.81 meters, Enos posted 16.72 meters, and Bartley recorded 15.84 meters.

Fletcher turned in one of Husson's top field-event performances of the day in the hammer throw, placing second overall with a mark of 38.98 meters. Chesbro added a 14th-place throw of 30.79 meters, and junior Abigail Conlogue posted 28.72 meters.

Husson closed the day with a standout effort in the javelin, where Conlogue won the event and hit the DIII New England standard, in addition to setting a new personal-best with a throw of 36.64 meters. Enos added a mark of 21.95 meters, Dearborn threw 18.36 meters and Chesbro reached 17.42 meters.

The Eagles will head to Lewiston next weekend for the Maine State Championship Meet, hosted by Bates College on Saturday at the Russell Street Track & Field.
