Box Score AMBLER, Pa. - For the first time since 2009, the Husson University baseball team picked up an NCAA Tournament victory as they defeated Elizabethtown College, 13-12, in an elimination game at the Glenside Regional at Skip Wilson Field on the campus of Arcadia University.
The Blue Jays (22-22) opened up the scoring in the first inning with two runs but Husson (25-16) responded with 13 consecutive runs en route to the historical victory.
The comeback started in the third inning as the Eagles put together eight runs on eight hits. Senior Tyler Parke started the inning with a walk then junior Austin Snow walked to set up sophomore Jackson Curtis and he delivered a bases-clearing single to tie the game at two. Seniors Kobe Rogerson and Ethan Stoddard continued the inning with back-to-back doubles followed by a Blue Jays' error as it became 5-2 Husson. After a pitching change, freshman Ty Knowlton singled to score fellow freshman Tanner Evans to make it 6-2. Later in the inning, sophomore Akira Warren was hit by a pitch then scored as Parke tripled. Parke would score on a single by Snow to cap off the scoring.
In the fourth, Stoddard tripled to score Rogerson then an error allowed Stoddard to score. Knowlton would cap off the scoring in the inning with a double as he made it, 11-2 Husson. Junior Joshua Scott was one of the last Eagles to record a hit in the game but he made his count in the fifth when he smashed a solo shot for his eighth homer of the season to make it a 10 run lead. The Eagles would finish scoring runs in the sixth when Parke singled to make it 13-2.
The Blue Jays battled back to within one as Warren ended the game with a diving grab at second base as senior Cam Graham recorded his first collegiate save.
Junior Harrison Lendrum started the contest for the Eagles as he allowed the opening two runs to the Blue Jays. Freshman Matt Wallingford replaced the junior and went four innings as he allowed just two hits. Sophomore Jackson Thayer, senior Jake Gregoire, sophomore Ryan Robb, sophomore Alex Smith, and Graham closed the game out for the Eagles.
The Eagles will get a couple hours off before facing elimination again as they will take on the losing team of the Arcadia/Oswego State game with a berth in the regional final on the line. First pitch for the next Eagles' game is scheduled as of now for 3:30 p.m.
