BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Husson University baseball team dropped a non-conference matchup to Bowdoin College, 15-2, on Tuesday evening at Pickard Field.
Bowdoin (10-11) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning before adding another in the second to take a 4-1 advantage.
After Bowdoin plated three in the opening frame, Husson (7-10) answered in the second inning. Freshman John Hanlon sparked the rally with a double down the left field line and later came around to score on a ground ball off the bat of sophomore Yates Emerson, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
The Polar Bears continued to build their lead in the middle innings, scoring twice in the third to make it 6-1. Husson responded in the fourth inning when freshman Wes Piper was hit by a pitch, stole second, and came home on an RBI single from Emerson to trim the deficit to 6-2.
However, Bowdoin broke the game open over the next two innings. Two unearned runs in the fourth extended the lead to 8-2 before a four-run fifth inning pushed the margin to 12-2. The home team added three more runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple, to account for the 15-2 final.
Husson recorded six hits in the contest, with Emerson leading the way with two hits and an RBI. Hanlon and sophomore Jackson Larck each added doubles, while seniors Colin Marshall and Cam Rendell also collected hits.
On the mound, senior Keegan Cyr took the loss after allowing three runs in the first inning. The Eagles utilized multiple pitchers throughout the game, with sophomore Michael Skowrwon, junior Jack Lano, sophomore Jacob Brown, freshman Luke Chandler and senior Max Lukeman all seeing time in relief.
