Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Husson University baseball team allowed 13 unanswered runs in their 16-6 loss to Penn-State Abington on Monday afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational.
The Eagles (2-2) offense started out strong scoring runs in each of the first three innings. It took three batters for the first run of the game to be scored as sophomore Akira Warren was hit by a pitch then scored as fellow sophomore Jackosn Curtis doubled to left field. In the second inning, it was a similar story. Freshman Ty Knowlton got hit by a pitch in his first collegiate at-bat then he scored on a sacrifice fly from Warren. In the third inning, senior Nick Swift and Knowlton each had a RBI-single and the Eagles led 4-1 after three.
Husson scored their final two runs in the fifth inning thanks to a failed pick-off attempt to score freshman Joshua Scott then senior Ethan Stoddard scored on a wild pitch.
The Nittany Lions, down 6-1, midway through the game would score the remaining runs to win the ballgame in eight innings, 16-6, and improve to 5-2 on the season.
Senior Alex Smith made the start on the hill for the Eagles and went five innings as he allowed three runs on eight hits. Six different pitchers combined in the relief effort including collegiate debuts for freshman Bradley McLaughlin, sophomore Ben Taneman, and freshman Eli Reed.
The Eagles will travel to Davenport, Florida to take on Russell Sage College in a doubleheader at NorthEast Regional Park on Tuesday, March 8th with first pitch of game one scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
