Box Score 2 SANFORD, Fla. - The Husson University baseball team took one of two games from the Corsairs of UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at Sanford Memorial Stadium in the RussMatt Invitational. The Eagles are now 2-1 on the young season after a victory in game one, 9-1, while the Corsairs move to 4-1 after victory in game two, 3-2, in eight innings.
The Eagles' offense started the game off strong in game one by scoring a run in each of the first two innings. Senior Kobe Rogerson played a key role in both of those runs as he scored via an error in the first inning then drove home senior Tyler Parke in the second inning.
The fifth inning saw both teams score as two freshmen combined to bring home three runs for the Eagles. Freshman Joshua Scott singled to score Rogerson then freshman Tanner Evans doubled to score sophomore Jackson Curtis and Scott. The Corsairs would respond with their only run of the contest as Zak Souza homered.
The Eagles would put the game to bed in the seventh with four runs highlighted by a 2-run RBI-triple from Parke as the Eagles earned the 9-1 victory.
Senior Brandon Brunell earned the victory on the mound after going four-plus innings and allowing one run on three runs. Senior Jake Gregoire and sophomore Ryan Robb combined in relief for two-plus innings and allowed four hits.
In game two, each team scored runs in the third inning via errors. The Corsairs tallied a run in the top half while the Eagles scored two runs on the same error.
UMass-Dartmouth would tie the game in sixth with a single from Chase Parlseau then scored the winning run in the eighth inning via an error.
Sophomore Chris Naylor earned a no decision on the mound after pitching five innings and allowing a run on three hits. Senior Evan Holzworth, freshman Matt Wallingford, and freshman Ryne Rametta combined to pitch three innings in relief.
The Eagles have a rest day on Sunday before taking on Penn State-Abington on Monday, March 7th with first pitch scheduled for 2:45 p.m. at Lake Myrtle Park #6 in Auburndale, Mass.
