Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine —The Husson University men's basketball team dropped a 71-70 second half thriller to Bowdoin College on the road Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
Bowdoin (7-2) overcame a seven-point Husson advantage over the final minutes of Wednesday's clash, using two late free throws to hang on for the victory.
Husson (4-3) got off to a slow start to open the evening, but closed the half on a 24-15 scoring run over its final 10 minutes to control a 46-39 advantage heading into the break.
The Polar Bears opened the second half with a run of their own to regain the lead with just over 16 minutes remaining as both teams traded leads through the second half, with 15 lead changes in total for the night.
The Eagles finished with a 16-7 steals advantage, turning the ball over just seven times on the evening, but Bowdoin finished 12-28 from behind the 3-point arc to hang with the Eagles late into the second half.
Senior DJ Bussey finished with a team-high 14 points for the Eagles while graduate senior Justin Thompson turned in a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double, finishing with a game-high in rebounds.
Husson finished with four players in double digits as senior J Thomas and sophomore Jeremy Moronta each eclipsed the mark, Thomas finishing with 10 points and Moronta with a career-high 12.
Additionally, Moronta collected game and career-high eight steals breaking a program record that was set by both Trevon Butler and Brock Bradford.
The Eagles return back to the hardwood on Saturday when they host WPI at 1 p.m.
