Box Score FORT KENT, Maine - The Husson University women's soccer team closed out their trip to the north with a 1-1 draw at the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Sunday afternoon. With the draw, the Eagles are 6-2-2 on the season while the Bengals are 6-1-2.
Both teams have close to identical records and it shows on the field as both teams managed one shot in the first 45 minute. It was the Eagles who held the lead at halftime thanks to a penalty kick in the 34th minute. Sophia Mullins took a free kick from the right side of the box and a foul on the Bengals inside the box during the delivery of the free kick resulted in a penalty kick for the Eagles. Bri Saulter stepped up and scored her third spot kick goal of her collegiate career. Isabel Kiledjian guessed the right way but the shot was placed perfectly into the bottom left corner out of the reach of the UMFK keeper.
The Bengals were on the front foot for the second half and were rewarded in the dying moments of the match in the 85th minute. A free kick taken by Ryan Hernandez was whipped into the box and looked to take a deflection in the opposite way that Hannah Kenney was going and found the back of the net.
There were no shots in the two overtime periods as the Eagles and Bengals settled for the draw. With the draw, the Eagles are the only team this season in the North Atlantic Conference that earned a positive result vs. the 2019 USCAA Small School Division One National Champions. Maine Maritime, UMaine-Farmington, and UMaine-Presque Isle have all fallen to the Bengals.
The six game roadstand ends on Wednesday, October 6th when the Eagles travel to East Boston Memorial Park to take on the Suffolk Rams for a 6 p.m. showdown.
