Husson Baseball Holds Off Bates Rally to Seal 6-4 Win

Box Score

BANGOR, Maine -The Husson University Eagles (12-9, 3-1 NAC) defeated the Bates College Bobcats (6-9, 1-2 NESCAC) in a nine-inning game on Tuesday night on the Harold Alfond Diamond, shutting down a last inning attempt to rally by the Bobcats as the Eagles snatched a 6-4 victory.

The Bobcats got on the board first in the top of the second inning off an RBI double from Giovanni Torres, but the Eagle defense kept the remaining two baserunners from scoring with a double play to end the half inning.

Husson quickly responded in the bottom half the second with the bases loaded, the shortstop looked for the easy out at first giving Kobe Rogerson an RBI groundout as Ethan Stoddard scored from third.

The Bobcats reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth on a fielder's choice, just barely missing a double play, to make the score 2-1. In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles once again wasted no time to tie the game as Nolan Brown hit a shot right up the middle to score Michael Schneider. Two innings later, Husson took the lead for the first-time following singles from both Rogerson and Brown.

The Eagles added insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 6-2 before a Bates rally in the top of the ninth was squelched with a strikeout from Jacob Gauvin on the mound for the Eagles for a final score of 6-4.
