Baseball earns six MCBSA All-State honors

STANDISH, Maine – The Maine College Baseball & Softball Association announced its postseason awards for baseball on Tuesday and the Husson University baseball team earned six different honors.

Junior Matt Holmes was tabbed a first team all-state selection to add on to his stellar year. Holmes was also named North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, a NAC First Team All-Conference selection, a NAC All-Tournament team honoree, a D3baseball.com All-Region 1 First Team member and an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Region 1 Second Team selection. Holmes finished the season hitting .396, in addition to posting a .503 on-base percentage, a .755 slugging percentage and a 1.258 OPS, while adding 10 home runs, four triples, 12 doubles and 57 RBIs.

Freshman Liam Kelley joined Holmes on the first team, while also earning a spot on the All-State Rookie Team. Kelley earned North Atlantic Conference Tournament MVP honors and finished his freshman year hitting .360, which was second-best on the team, while also adding a .449 on-base percentage, a .607 slugging percentage and a 1.056 OPS. Additionally, Kelley recorded three home runs, two triples and nine doubles, while also driving in 26 runs.

Sophomore Noah Hurd picked up the final first team spot as a relief pitcher, as the left-hander had a standout year on the mound. Hurd was tabbed a NAC First Team All-Conference selection, as he posted a 4-1 record to go along with a 3.23 ERA in 14 appearances out of the Husson bullpen. Hurd totaled 25 strikeouts in 39 innings pitched, while recording a 1.36 WHIP and limiting batters to a .292 batting average against him.

Senior Cam Rendell earned the lone second team selection for Husson, as he was also named a NAC All-Conference First Team honoree during the year. Rendell finished his senior year batting .331, adding a .439 on-base percentage, a .532 slugging and a .971 OPS, in addition to posting six home runs, two triples and six doubles, while also contributing 33 RBIs.

Freshman Preston Libby was named to the rookie team following a great year as a freshman at third base. Libby was selected as a NAC All-Conference First Team member as he posted a .256 batting average for the year, in addition to a .316 on-base percentage, a .344 slugging percentage and a .660 OPS. Libby totaled three triples and five doubles, while also driving in 21 runs this year.
