Women's Lacrosse Picks Up Road Win Against NVU-Lyndon, 17-3

NORTHFIELD, Vt.- Sophomore goalkeeper Mallory Burchill made six saves to help Husson women's lacrosse (3-3) defeat Northern Vermont University-Lyndon (0-5) by the final score of 17-3 on Sunday afternoon at Sabine Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Eagles came to play today as they scored 12 of their 17 goals in the first half against NVU-Lyndon. The Hornets snuck in one goal unassisted by Felisha Olmstead with 6:05 left in the opening half. Mary Cushing, Jordyn Labrie, and Cali Newton netted two goals apiece in the first 30 minutes of play, while Riana Winslow tucked away a hat trick to help provide a 17-1 advantage going into halftime. 

Husson kept the momentum rolling into the second half with the same fire, outscoring their opponents 5-2. Newton scored her third goal of the game not even a minute into the second half, to give Husson a 13-1 lead. Olmstead tacked on two more goals to complete her hat trick later in the final 15 minutes of the game before the Eagles picked up a 17-3 triumph.

HUSSON LEADERS:

  • Cushing scored the game-high of four goals and won four draw controls.
  • Newton and Winslow both put away three goals and one assist.
  • Rose Davies helped out with five ground balls and caused four turnovers. 

NVU-LYNDON LEADERS:

  • Olmstead netted the Hornets' only goals of the game with three. 
  • Tori McCormack picked up three ground balls, won four draw controls, and caused a game-high of five turnovers. 
  • Michaela Columbia recorded four ground balls, won two draw controls, and caused two turnovers.

NETMINDERS:

Burchill made six saves on nine shots for the Eagles while Zoe Pierce-Olhson made seven saves for the Hornets.

TEAM STATS:

The Eagles outshot the Hornets, 31-13, while the NVU-Lyndon won the draw control battle, 13-9.

The Husson Eagles continue play on Tuesday, April 2nd as they square off at home against Maine Maritime Academy at 3:30 p.m.
