Box Score BANGOR, Maine -David LeBlanc walks off to score Nolan Brown as Husson Baseball (8-8) defeats Saint Joseph's College of Maine (13-4) with a final score of 2-1, in the longest game in program history for both schools, making it to 15 innings.
St. Joe's opened the scoring in the third inning as Greg Emanuelson tripled to right field, which scored Jared Gagne. Husson quickly got the final out of the inning to leave Emanuelson stranded on third as the Eagles looked to score their first run.
Following five scoreless innings for both teams, Husson got in the board just in time to tie the tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the eighth inning. Nick Guerrette walked to begin the inning. LeBlanc reached on a fielder's choice as the Ethan Stoddard worked the count to load the bases. After a pitcher change for the Monks, LeBlanc scored on an RBI double to left field by Luke Covey.
No runs were scored in the ninth inning, which forced the game into extras. Both teams failed to have a baserunner reach from the 12th to the top of the 15th inning.
After several innings without seeing a single hit, Brown stepped up to the plate and hit a single to get the ball rolling in the bottom of the 15th inning. Kobe Rogerson then took one for the team, laying down a sacrifice bunt to push Brown to second base. Connor Maguire then lined a single to center as Brown scurried to third with just one out. To help better their advantage, the Monks walked the next batter before a LeBlanc single sent Brown racing to touch home plate before a double play was barely a second from being executed, as he scored the winning run, 2-1.
ON THE MOUND:
Blake Slicer started on the mound for Husson, pitching seven full innings with five K's, while giving up seven hits to score one earned run. He was relieved by Jacob Gauvin to open up the eighth inning. Gauvin pitched one scoreless inning for the Eagles. Nolan Dousa entered the game as he pitched one scoreless ninth inning with three consecutive strikeouts. Ben Bernier followed up with two innings while allowing one hit and one walk before Jesse Colford finished out the game (1-2) pitching four scoreless innings with five strikeouts for the win.
Grayson Jennings started the game for St. Joe's, but only lasted two innings while walking two batters. Troy Bogdahn took over, lasting two innings while allowing one hit. Matt Soldano, Devan Harrison, and Kristian Harris each pitched one scoreless inning. Nick Iannuzzi lasted only 0.1 innings after allowing one earned run with one hit and two walks. Jonathan Rolfe pitched 2.2 innings while giving up one hit. Matt Poff came out of the bullpen in the 11th inning going 4.2 innings as he allowed one earned run, two hits, and struck out two batters.
HUSSON LEADERS:
- LeBlanc recorded the game-winning RBI, a run scored, and a walk.
- Luke Covey grabbed a double and hit home the only other RBI for Husson.
- Maguire posted two hits and was left on base twice.
SAINT JOSEPH'S LEADERS:
- Emanuelson batted 1-3 with a hit and the Monks' lone RBI.
- Gagne picked up a hit and scored their only run.
- Joey Murphy went 1-3 on the evening with a base hit.
