LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - Husson University (3-4, 2-1 NAC) scored three goals in a ten minute span to cruise past Northern Vermont University-Lyndon (1-8, 1-3 NAC), 4-1, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's soccer action at Varsity Field on Saturday afternoon.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The scoring started in the first half as both teams recorded points in just under a minute span as first-year Alexa Thayer tallied her second goal of the season at the 27:04 mark when she fired a perfect shot pass the Hornet keeper from the left side of the box. The Hornets responded quickly to even the score at 1-1, only 57 seconds later. NVU-Lyndon took the restart right down to their attacking 18-yard box and drew a foul. Eleanor Harrington stepped up for the Hornets' free kick and drilled the shot right down the middle into the top of the net to level the game at one. The Eagles and Hornets would head to the break at a 1-1 deadlock.  

Husson came out of the break hot, firing shot after shot before finally breaking through in the 61st minute as Thayer found Bri Saulter at the top of the box and Saulter ripped a shot that went off the bottom of the crossbar into the back of the net. In the 65th minute, the Eagles scored again as Arianna McKinnon received a pass from Mackenzie St. Pierre and McKinnon's shot beat the rushing Hornet keeper to push the Eagle advantage to two. Husson finished off the scoring with their third tally in a ten minute span as the Hornets cleared the ball from their own box finding Husson's Emily Helgerson. She slotted a nice through ball just ahead of an oncoming Alli Carey behind the Hornet defense. Carey then half-volleyed it into the back of the net to make the game 4-1. 

BETWEEN THE POSTS:

Shie Smith recorded her first NAC win as she made six saves while the Hornets used two keepers. Lauren Young started the game and made seven saves off of ten shots before Victoria McCormack took over and completed six stops in 22 minutes played. 

TEAM SHOTS:

The Eagles outshot the Hornets, 30-9, including a 21-6 advantage in the second half. The Green and Gold had 17 shots on goal while the Green and Yellow registered seven.

The Eagles continue their four-game road trip with their final non-conference match-up of the season as they travel to Waterville to take on the Mules of Colby College on Wednesday, October 9th. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
