Seniors Lead Eagles to Victory

Box Score

BANGOR, Maine—Husson (5-6, 4-4 NAC) defeated Johnson State (0-10, 0-8 NAC) 18-2 in conference action Saturday afternoon.  It was the senior game for Husson, and the Eagles were fittingly led by senior Mattie Russell who scored four goals while also tallying four assists. Russell also recorded her 100th point on senior day.

Husson got on the board less than one minute into the game with a goal from Makenna Mont, one of her three on the day, and the Eagles never looked back.  Mont and Russell traded goals to give Husson an early 4-0 lead before a Megan Bataran tally and two scores from Cali Newton gave the Eagles a commanding lead.

Johnson State was only able to field a team of seven players, allowing the Eagles to spread the field and unleash a fierce offensive attack.  Seniors Lauren Coughlin and Mariah Carrier got in on the scoring in the first half for Husson along with Amanda Deshaies and Jordyn Labrie to give the Eagles 12-0 lead. Johnson State made a late push and Badgers attacker Nichole Weeks was able to put Johnson State on the board with two goals to end the half.

Husson was able to shut out a tired Badgers team in the second half and play possession ball while adding onto their lead.  Abby Greenleaf scored her lone goal of the game at the 27:56 mark of the half before Husson began slowing the game down.  In addition to second half goals from Deshaies, Mont, and Russell, Cassidy Roderick also notched a score for the Eagles.

Senior goaltender Kaitlin Dolloff played a strong game in net for the Eagles, making five saves on seven shots while only allowing two goals en route to the Husson win.  Johnson State goalie Naomi Quad faced 29 shots from the Eagles unrelenting offensive attack, saving 11 of them.

Husson will return to the field for their regular-season finale on Tue. Apr. 25 where they'll face Maine Maritime in Castine.
