BANGOR, Maine – The Husson men's basketball team took on the Maine Black Bears at the Cross Insurance Center on Saturday afternoon to open up the 2017-18 season with an exhibition game. Despite senior Raheem Anderson leading the game with 24 points, the Eagles couldn't hold onto a solid lead as they fell 84-63 to Maine.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Eagles battled back-and-forth with the Black Bears in the first six minutes for the lead, but after a 3-pointer by Ilija Stojiljkovic with 14:15 on the clock, Maine began slowly separating themselves from Husson on the scoreboard.

Going into halftime, the Eagles trailed 44-29.

Husson picked up the pace in the second half netting 34 points, but couldn't quite catchup with the Black Bears.

LEADERS – HUSSON:

• Senior guard Anderson led all scorers with 24 points, with two steals, while posting a 4-4 effort from the free throw line
• Junior forward Justin Martin netted 14 points, shooting 4-5 from downtown, 2-2 from the charity stripe, and adding on two blocks
• Senior guard Mitch Worcester dished out four assists while chipping in five points and grabbing a pair of steals
• Junior guard Kyanti Blyden netted six points
• Freshman guard Corey Kaiser jumped into the action for two steals

LEADERS – MAINE:

• Sophomore guard Isaiah White recorded 17 points, helping out with a 3-5 three-point shooting effort, jumping up for two blocks, and grabbing four steals
• Sophomore forward Andrew Fleming went 4-4 from the charity stripe, handed out four assists, and registered 13 points
• Junior guard Trae Bryant shot 2-2 from the free throw line, netted 10 points, and passed out four assists
• Junior guard Aaron Calixte shot 2-2 from downtown, adding on 10 points and picking up a pair of steals
• Senior guard Ilker Er netted 10 points, shot 4-4 in free throws, and stole two balls

The Husson men's basketball team will open up their regular season on the road against St. Joseph's (Maine) on Saturday, November 18 with tipoff at 3 p.m. The Eagles will play their first home game on Tuesday, November 28 hosting Thomas (Maine) for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
