Box Score BANGOR, Maine – Trevon Butler scored a career-high 33 points to lead the Eagles to a 92-89 victory over Colby in overtime in non-conference action on Tuesday night in Newman Gym.
Husson (12-4) ends a one game losing streak, while Colby (12-6) drops its second straight game to the Eagles inside Newman Gym and falls to 15-16 in the all-time series.
The Eagles took an 80-77 lead with 1:13 left in regulation, but a Patrick Stewart three-pointer with 21 seconds left wound up sending the game into the extra session.
After the two teams were tied at 80 at the end of regulation, a Chris Hudnut free throw put the Mules up early to open the extra session but a three-point shot by Trevon Butler gave the Eagles an 84-81 lead with 3:18 left. 18 seconds later the Mules responded with a jump shot by Ryan Jann cutting the Husson lead to one, 84-83 and a 7-2 run by Husson stretched the lead to 91-85 with 23 seconds left in the game. The Eagles held off a late run by the Mules in closing seconds and a Butler free throw with 8 seconds left sealed the 92-89 victory for Husson.
The Eagles took a 41-30 lead into the intermission and came out to start the second half on a 14-9 run to build their lead to 55-39 before the Mules went on a 25-14 run cutting the Husson lead to five with 6:56 left in the regulation. Husson couldn't get more than a five-point lead the rest of way and the game remind tight down the stretch.
Butler added five rebounds and one steal, while tying the school game record with nine three-point shots made. Raheem Anderson finished with 22 points, five rebounds, four assist, and one block. Justin Martin contributed 10 points and nine rebounds off the bench and Zach Curran added 10 to the Husson offense.
Stewart scored a team-high 21 points for the Mules, while Same Wilson finished with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Hudnut chipped in with 16 points and Jann scored 15 points to close out the double digit scorers for the Mules.
The Eagles will return the court Friday night when they travel to New England College for a 7:30 p.m. North Atlantic Conference game and the Mules will trek down to Brunswick on January 30th to face Bowdoin for a 3:00 p.m. NESCAC game.
