Box Score BANGOR, Maine – Trevon Butler scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Eagles to a 73-61 victory over Castleton University in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Friday Night in Newman Gym.
Husson (11-3, 9-0 NAC) wins its ninth-straight NAC game, while Castleton (5-11, 4-5 NAC) drops its 17th-straight game to the Eagles inside Newman Gym and falls to 9-27 in the all-time series.
Castleton jumped out to an early lead on an 8-1 run by Rob Coloutti in the first four minutes. The Spartans then stretched their lead to 13-3 behind five straight points from Tondi Mushandu. At 12:48, Robbie Colarusso made it 18-10 on a triple and four minutes later back-to-back buckets by Coloutti and Colarusso extended the advantage to 25-12.
Husson's offense started to click after a Justin Martin made jump shot with 11:38 left to ago and the team went on a 15-2 run to tie the game, 27-27, on a free throw by Trevon Butler with 3:52 left in the half. Coloutti traded points with Martin and Butler over the next three minutes to keep the game tied and a last second three by Eli Itkin missed as the teams went into the break even at 31 apiece.
The Eagles jumped out to a 39-35 advantage three minutes into the second half with buckets from Zach Curran, Matavious Lockhart, Butler and Tyler Norris and stretched the lead to 12, 49-37, on a Butler shot from beyond the arc at 13:11. Coloutti responded with a three of his own to make it a ten-point game and two minutes later Castleton trailed 54-44. However, Husson countered with a 14-2 run over the next five minutes for a 68-46 advantage with 5:13 left and cruise the rest of the way for a 73-61 win.
Butler was one of two Husson players in double figures with his team high 17 points while adding eight rebounds and one steal. Justin Martin added ten points, six rebounds and three assists off the bench.
Coloutti led the Spartans with a game high 26 points, six rebounds and one steal. Mushandu added a double-double of 13 points, 11 rebounds and four assists while Lake Roberson chipped in six late points off the bench.
Husson returns to action tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. inside Newman Gym versus Green Mountain for the 26th edition of the battle of Eagles, while Castleton travels to Castine to face Maine Maritime for a 3:00 p.m. NAC game.
