Box Score LYNDONVILLE, VT – The Husson University men's basketball team converted three-of-four late shots to propel the Eagles to a 71-66 win at Lyndon St. on Friday evening. Husson improves to 16-5 overall and 12-3 in North Atlantic Conference play while Lyndon St. falls to 8-14 and 7-8 in league play.
The Eagles and Hornets were knotted at 62 late in the contest before Jacob Moore (Hampden, ME) converted a three-pointer with 2:20 left. David Johnson answered for the Hornets with a pair of free throws, but Aaron Willis (New York, NY) drilled another trifecta with 1:50 left giving the Eagles a four-point edge.
After Willis grabbed a rebound off a Lyndon miss, Trevon Butler (Waterbury, CT) was able to get his own miss before Raheem Anderson (Miramar, FL) hit a jumper with 20 seconds left to seal the game for the Eagles.
Husson took a 33-31 lead at half, but Lyndon St. would come back and take a seven-point lead on two occasions in the second half, the last coming with just under 14 minutes left at 46-39 in a game that saw 14 ties and the lead change 14 times.
After the Hornets saw their lead expand to 46-39, Husson responded with a nine-to-nothing run capped by an Anderson three-pointer with 11 minutes left.
A butler jumper with 6:45 left gave Husson a 54-49 lead, but Lyndon St. tied it at 54 and neither team could get more than a two-point lead before the Eagles' late run.
Willis finished with a team-high 18 points to go with six rebounds and five assists. Moore added 15 points and five assists while Butler notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Anderson added 14 points.
David Johnson had a game-high 26 points for Lyndon St.
Husson shot 46.3 percent while Lyndon shot 44.4 percent while Husson held a 40-31 edge in rebounding.
Husson continues play tomorrow with a 12 p.m. game at Johnson St.
