Box Score POULTNEY, VT – Aaron Willis (New York, NY) scored a team-high 22 points and the Husson University men's basketball team used a 20-to-6 run midway through the second half to hold off Green Mountain by the score of 104-99 on Saturday afternoon in Poultney, VT. Husson is now 15-3 on the year and 11-1 in NAC play while Green Mountain falls to 6-11 and 6-6 in league play.
With the game tied at 65 with 15:35 left, Raheem Anderson (Miramar, FL) scored seven of his 15 points to spur the 20-to-6 run and give Husson an 85-71 lead with 10 minutes left.
Green Mountain clawed back to get within 93-90 with just over three minutes left, but Willis scored six-straight points for Husson around a pair of Green Mountain layups to make it 99-94 with 1:10 left.
Green Mountain got within three on a Javier Lugris layup with 55 seconds left, but a Willis free throw followed by an Anderson layup with 33 seconds left sealed the win for Husson.
The teams were tied at 51 at halftime after both teams shot well from the field, with Husson at 47.4 percent and Green Mountain at 54.3 percent. Green Mountain held a commanding 23-10 edge in rebounding after the first stanza. Willis had 10 points in the first half for Husson while Jacob Moore (Hampden, ME) had 11 points, five boards and three assists.
Green Mountain took its only lead of the second half on a Darius Wynn three-pointer 40 seconds into the second half, and Husson could not push its lead to more than two points until the run midway through the half.
Moore finished with 17 points while Eli Itkin (Pawtucket, RI) scored 14. Trevon Butler (Waterbury, CT) added 12 points and eight rebounds. Lugris had 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead Green Mountain.
Husson shot 48.6 percent for the game while Green Mountain shot 51.4 percent. Green Mountain held the rebounding edge 45-35.
Husson returns to action on Friday when the Eagles host New England College at 5:30 p.m.
