Box Score New London, NH – The Husson University men's basketball team edged the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer on Saturday afternoon, 71-60.
Trevon Butler (Waterbury, CT) led the Eagles offensively with 18 points, and defensively with 7 defensive rebounds and 2 steals. Phil Leighton (Naples, ME) and Eli Itkin (Providence, RI) both added 9 points for Husson.
Mike Dias led the way for the Chargers with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.
The lead changed a pair of times in the opening minutes before the Eagles went on a 10-0 run capped by a pair of Dan Fleming (Fairfield, ME) layups to take a 14-5 lead. The Chargers came within one at 21-20 after a Wol Majong jumper with 5:34 to play in the half.
The Eagles took the lead on the first possession of the second half on a 3-pointer by Itkin. Dias knotted the game at 34-34 on the next trip down the floor for the Chargers, but Husson took the momentum with a 10-2 run. The Chargers hung around, keeping the game within two or three possessions. Husson eventually built its lead to 14 after a pair of Butler free throws with a couple of minutes to play en route to the 71-60 victory.
"Our defense kept us in the game today until we found some flow offensively. We did some good things in the second half and got a quality win on the road," said Head Coach Warren Caruso.
The Eagles, who improve to 19-2 overall and 13-1 in the NAC, will return to Newman Gymnasium to host Lyndon State on Friday, February 14th and Johnson State Saturday, February
