Box Score BANGOR, ME – Raheem Anderson (Miramar, FL) scored 24 points and gave out nine assists to lead the Husson University men's basketball team to an 85-75 overtime win over Castleton on Saturday afternoon at Newman Gymnasium. With their fifth-straight win, the Eagles improve to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in NAC play while Castleton falls to 4-4 and 2-2 in league play.
After the two teams were tied at 65 at the end of regulation, Husson went on a 10-to-4 run to open the extra session. The Spartans came back and were within four at 75-71 with 2:14 left, but Anderson responded with a drive to the bucket that resulted in a layup and the foul giving Husson a 78-71 lead with 1:56 left.
Castleton converted a layup, but an Eli Itkin (Pawtucket, RI) layup and Trevon Butler (Waterbury, CT) free throw gave Husson an 81-73 lead with a minute left sealed the game.
Castleton held a 65-63 lead with 1:04 left, but Aaron Willis (New York, NY) calmly converted two free throws to tie the game with 57 seconds left and force overtime.
The Spartans held a 29-21 lead with 7:22 left in the first half, but Husson went on a 9-to-4 run with Butler converting a pair of threes to bring Husson within 33-30 at halftime.
Castleton held a 45-36 lead with 14:50 left in the second half, but Husson went on a 10-to-1 run capped by an Anderson trifecta to knot the game at 46 with just under 11 minutes to play. Neither team could get more than a five-point lead after and the game was tight the rest of regulation.
Butler finished with 24 points, six rebounds and six assists while Matt Talbot (Portland, ME) added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Chad Copeland had 22 points to lead Castleton.
Husson shot 41.9 percent from the field while Castleton shot 49.1 percent. The Eagles had a 44-29 edge in rebounding.
Husson returns to action on Dec. 28 against Scranton in the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas.
