Box Score WATERVILLE, ME - Desir'ee Hamler (Franklin, NJ) converted a penalty kick in the 21st minute that proved to be the game-winner as the Husson University women's soccer team advanced to the NAC semifinals with a 2-0 win over Johnson State on Monday evening at Thomas College. Husson improves to 12-7 on the year while Johnston finishes its season 8-9-1.
In the 21st minute, Mollie Roy (Hermon, ME) was in the box and looking to convert but was fouled. Hamler calmly took the kick and placed a beautiful shot in the upper left hand corner to give the Eagles the lead.
In the 85th minute, Leah Hibbad (Portsmouth, RI) took a corner kick and placed right on the foot of Brooke LaBelle (Ashland, ME) who placed the ball in the corner to seal the deal.
Jess Poulin (Albion, ME) made three saves for Husson while Amber McCullock made eight for Johnson State.
"This was a fantastic match when we were finally able to play it," said Husson head coach Carly Gettler. "And all the credit to Johnson State for dealing with difficult circumstances and presenting a great side. Hats off to our team tonight--they came to the game with a huge will to win and were relentless in their effort throughout the game. We're excited to advance to the semifinals and looking forward to playing on Wednesday."
The Eagles will travel to take on Castleton on Wednesday.
