Box Score Springfield, MA - Husson Football lost it's second contest of the 2013 season to Springfield College by a final of 36-0. The Eagles managed just 166 yards of total offense, with 135 of them coming on the ground, while Springfield put up 416 yards, all but 20 of which from their run game.
The Pride opened up the scoring at the 8:20 left in the first, as Louis Fenaroli ran into the endzone from a yard out. James Poggio came in for the extra point but Husson's Joe Saccereccia blocked the kick to keep the score at 6-0 in favor of Springfrield.
Husson and the Pride punted back and forth for next few drives until Blake Joppy ran in from the one yard line himself, paired with Joel Altavesta's good two-point conversion to push the score to 14-0.
Fenaroli, later on in the second quarter, coughed up the football thanks to a forced fumble by Ellis Throckmorton who recovered for the Eagles as well on their own nine yard line. Throckmorton added a tackle for a loss of four yards and 12 solo tackles on the day at Stagg Field. Stephan Dance had ten solo tackles of his own, second most in the game for Husson
The Eagle's bright spot on the afternoon on defense were their forced fumbles. Husson's first on the afternoon was Throckmorton's, which was quickly followed on the Eagle's ensuing punt as Logan Steward forced a Joppy fumble and recovered it himself as well at the Husson 45. Steward had a sack against the Pride, good enough for a ten yard loss.
James York recovered the third fumble on the afternoon late in the third quarter. Marrero rushed for no gain for the Pride and let go of the ball in the process. York covered the ball at the 46 and Husson took over.
Husson's top performer on offense was Kyle McKinnon, who ran 17 times for 80 yards, the longest of which for 16 yards.
With the loss Husson falls to 0-2 in 2013 and Springfield moves to 2-0 after downing Western New England last week 49-40.
Husson will play it's home opener next Saturday, September 21st against Alfred State. Kickoff is schedule for 12:00 noon.
