Box Score Bangor, ME – North Atlantic Conference (NAC) first place Maine-Farmington beat the second place Husson Eagles in men's basketball action in Newman Gym on Tuesday night.
UMF had two players—Andrew Dickey and Nate Carson—put up 21 points in the win. Beavers junior Ben Johnson hit his 1,000th career point for the Beavers in the midst of scoring 15 points on the night. Senior Eric Modica (Kittery, ME) also had 15 points on the night, a team high for the Eagles, and led the team with 7 rebounds. Marc Zaharchuk (Richmond, ME) and Aaron Willis (New York, NY) each had 11 points in Husson's effort.
Maine-Farmington jumped out to an early lead at 8-2 off some sharp play from Dickey, Johnson, and Carson. Husson brought it to 12-13, and the teams went basket for basket for a stretch before Husson tied it up at 29-29. On a huge play from Zaharchuk where he grabbed a steal and slammed it through the rim, Husson took the lead and carried it into halftime.
The Eagles lost their lead five minutes into the half at 39-37 as UMF started a 12-0 run, and they never saw it again. Husson struggled in three point land, shooting 3 for 17 for the game (17.6%) compared to UMF's 10 of 17 (58.8%). The Beavers also outshot the Eagles from the field, 55 to 43 percent, and grabbed 32 rebounds to Husson's 21.
Husson will travel to play Johnson State and Lyndon State over the weekend and look to host a first round NAC playoff game next week. UMF will face Thomas to close out their regular season and will also host in the playoffs.
