Husson Swimming Has Fantastic Day at St. Joe's

Standish, ME - Husson men's and women's swimming competed in a dual meet with St. Joseph's College of Maine for the second time in the 2013-2014 season. The women won, for just the second time in program history against St. Joe's, 136-104. The men lost 123-71, but they beat their previous score against St. Joe's by 21 points.

In the women's meet, first year Natalie Calligan (Belfast, ME) was the story of the day, winning the 100 Yard Backstroke, 200 Yard Backstroke, and 200 Yard IM. She also led off the winning 200 Yard Medley Relay team and was accompanied by teammates Kay Mauzerolle (East Waterboro, ME), Jilian Boyle (Westport, MA), and Casey Pray (Bangor, ME). Boyle also grabbed first in the 200 Yard Freestyle, while Pray and Boyle also helped the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team to a win, along with Kaileigh Lenetine (Sidney, ME) and Sarah Klopp (Cape Elizabeth, ME).

Klopp helped the Eagles to the win with two additional individual first place finishes in the 50 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Freestyle. Patience Wilson (Brewer, ME) won the 200 Yard Butterfly, and Kayleigh Richardson (Kensington, NH), a sophomore captain, won the 100 Yard Butterfly.

Husson head coach Butch Babin was incredibly enthusiastic about the day, saying, "We did a great job today as a team. Winning both relays was huge, and Natalie won three events for the second time this season."

On the men's side, the team broke individual and program records in almost every event they competed in. Lou DeLima (Hampden, ME) won the 50 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Freestyle. He also led off the relay team of Ryan Robinson (Bangor, ME), James Nealey (Northport, ME), and Chris Benson (Arundel, ME) that won the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. Robinson also picked up second in the 100 Yard Butterfly and 200 Yard Freestyle, and Benson grabbed second in the 200 Yard Butterfly.

"It was a great effort by everyone," said Coach Babin.

The Eagles will next compete in the GNAC Championships (Women) and Invitational (Men) at Simmons College in Boston on December 7 and 8.
