Box Score Bangor, ME - The Husson women's soccer team
beat Thomas College 2-0 in their first North Atlantic Conference game at
Boucher Field Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Desir'ee
Hamler (Franklin, NJ) scored the game-winning goal in the 65th
minute off an assist from first year Miranda
Drinkwater (Greenville, ME). First year Hannah
Clough (Mount Vernon, ME) got the contest's second goal, and
the first of her collegiate career, 9 minutes later off an assist
from sophomore Julya
Spadaccini (Azusa, CA).
In a dominant performance by the Eagles, the team outshot the
visiting Terriers 20 to 6, with six of those coming from Clough and
5 from Hamler. Thomas goalkeeper, Kate Thibodeau (Woolwich, ME),
made 11 saves, while her Husson counterpart, Jess
Poulin, made 4.
Of her Husson team's first victory, and the first of her career,
head coach Carly Gettler said, "This was a great win for us. We
finally got a chance to really play our game against Thomas today
and our team had a lot of fun and success on the field. Desir'ee
and Hannah did well to finish their chances, and they definitely
deserved goals for all the hard work they've been putting in. We
rallied everywhere across the field for a great team victory
today."
Husson improves to 1-0 in the NAC and 1-6 on the season, while
Thomas falls to 0-1 in the NAC and 2-4 on the season. Thomas will
take on conference opponent Johnson State next Friday. Your Husson
Eagles will be back in action at home tomorrow (September 16) at
1:00 PM against nationally ranked #23 Wheaton College.
