Box Score Bangor, ME - The Husson men's basketball team beat Castleton State 94-69 on Friday night to improve to 2-3 (1-1 NAC), while the Spartans fell to 3-4 (2-1 NAC). The Spartans started the game on a 9-0 run, but Husson came roaring back with the help of a couple of Donte Cottonham (Silver Spring, MD) three-pointers. Jacob Moore (Hampden, ME) tied things up at 11-11, and the lead went back-and-forth until Husson pulled ahead at 18-17 and never looked back.
In the second half, the Spartans chipped away at the lead to get within eight points, as White went on a personal 9-2 run, to make it 57-65 with 13:06 left in the contest. Castleton wouldn't get any closer as an 11-0 run put the game out of reach and Husson finished with the 94-69 victory.
Castleton's Logan White had a game-high 18 points, while Moore led the Eagles with 15 points and 9 rebounds and Marc Zaharchuck (Richmond, ME) contributed 14 points and 6 rebounds of his own from the bench. Additonally for the Eagles, Cottonham had 12 points, Brooks Spaulding (Fairfield, ME) had 10, and both Wes Murphy (Norwich, CT) and Aaron Willis (New York, NY) had 9.
Despite its high-pressure defense, Castleton struggled to score in the match, shooting 39.1 percent from the field. Husson shot 50 percent from the field and scored 12 threes.
The Eagles play at home again Saturday (December 8) at 3 PM against Green Mountain College, following the women's basketball match at 1 PM.
