Box Score Northfield, VT – Husson Univeristy fell to the Cadets of Norwich on Saturday by a final of 56-0. The Eagles struggled to get their offense going most of the game and allowed several big plays for the Cadets.
Norwich generated more than 600 yards of total offense and sophomore Al Georgio had two scoring plays of longer than 60 yards as the Eagles were downed Saturday at Sabine Field. The loss drops Husson to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in conference competition. The win moves Norwich to .500 in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference play at 2-2 and puts them at 5-2 overall.
The Cadets wasted no time as senior quarterback Kris Sabourin scored on a 58-yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage after he faked a handoff and took the ball up the middle past the Eagle defense. It was Sabourin's fourth rushing touchdown of 2012.
The two teams traded punts until the he Cadets defense gave Norwich the ball back again on a three-and-out just inside ten minutes left in the quarter and Sabourin converted a crucial third-and-12 deep inside Cadet territory before he found Georgio in the flat for what seemed like a minimal gain. But Georgio was able to absorb hits and keep his feet moving and eventually took the ball 65 yards for his first receiving touchdown of the year.
Husson was down 21-0 after the first quarter as Norwich senior Danny Triplett scored from a yard out and continued to pile on points in the second stanza when Triplett caught his second career touchdown from Sabourin.
Husson's woes continued, trailing 35-0 at halftime after Sabourin tossed a touchdown to Zach Allen. Allen has seven touchdown receptions in 2012 and finished the day with 76 yards.
Husson managed just 172 yards of total offense and punted nine times. First-year punter Reece Attard booted all nine for a total of 370 yards, good for an average of 41.1 yards. Attard continues to shine on special teams, punting once for 52 yards, his longest on the day, an d tacking two punts inside of the Norwich 20 yard line.
Ryan Dorso was the stand out on Saturday for the Eagle offense, carrying the ball ten times for 70 yards. Dorso's longest run on the afternoon came in the second quarter as the sophomore took the handoff at the 20 yard line and scampered all the way to the Norwich 38 before being pushed out of bounds there.
The Eagles will be back in action Saturday the 27th as they travel to Throggs Neck, New York to take on the Privateers of Maritime College. Kickoff is 1pm and live stats and audio can be found here via hussoneagles.com.
