Box Score Bangor, ME – Husson University defeated the Hornets of Lyndon State in a packed Newman Gymnasium today to earn the 2011 North Atlantic Conference Championship. With the 84-73 win, the Eagles earn a bid to play in the NCAA National Tournament.
Senior Guard Josh Jones (Jefferson, ME) earned NAC Tournament MVP to go along with the NAC Player of the year honors. Jones scored 25 points and brought down 11 rebounds to help the team secure the victory. Jay Uhrin (Winterport, ME) recorded 25 points, Daeshawn McMorrin (Naugatuck, CT) had a solid night with 12 points, and Luis Medina (Harford, CT) scored 10 along with 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the Eagles.
North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year Phil Warrick (Springfield, MA) earned All-Tournament honors, and led all scorers with 26 points thanks to 7 three pointers. Antonio Mena (Central Falls, RI) was also named to the All-Tournament Team thanks to recording a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the Championship game. Jose Fortunato (Boston, MA) scored 14 points and grabbed 8 boards for the Hornets.

Jay Uhrin led the host Eagles with 9 points apiece in the first half.
Luis Medina was active from the point dishing out 4 assists in the half. Phil Warrick led all scorers with 18 first half points on 6-9 shooting from behind the arc. Freshman teammate Antonio Mena scored 7 and added 5 boards in the first half for the Hornets.
Husson led by 2 at the break, 40-38, but led by as many as 16 in the first half, and were seemingly cruising mid way through the frame, but Lyndon State rallied back. They would go up by 4 points after one of Warrick's 6 first half three pointers, the Hornets' largest lead in the first before Husson fought to go up by two at the break.
As a team the Eagles shot 46.4 % from the floor and 46.2 % from three point range. Lyndon shot 37.9 % from the field in the first, but held the slight advantage over Husson in the rebound column, 15-14.
Despite leading by only 2 points at the break, Husson stretched their lead to as many as 13 in the second half. The Eagles shot 44.1 % compared to the Hornets' 33.3%, but Lyndon maintained a slight edge on the boards, out-rebounding Husson 36-35.
