Uhrin Drops Game-Winning Lay-up for Husson's 11th Conference Win

Box Score

CASTLETON, Vt. – Senior guard Jay Uhrin (Winterport, Maine) canned the game-winning layup with four seconds remaining on the clock to lift Husson University over Castleton, 63-60, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Glenbrook Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 18-5 overall and 11-1 in the NAC. The Spartans fall to 13-10 and 8-4 in NAC play.

With under 10 seconds remaining, Uhrin cut towards the basket and finished the layup in traffic for the game-winner giving him a team-high 19 points on the afternoon. Joshua Jones (Jefferson, Maine) notched a double-double with 15 points on 6-of-15 shooting and 16 rebounds (four offensive). Daeshawn McMorrin (Naugatuck, Conn.) rounded out Husson's double digit scoring efforts with 10 points on 3-of-11 shooting from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 mark at the line.

For Castleton, Mark Comstock (Rutland, Vt.) finished with a team-high 19 points going 5-of-13 from the field and 9-of-10 from the line alongside five rebounds. Knight scored 15-of-his-16 points in the second half to help guide the Spartans' rally after trailing 28-27 at halftime. Junior guard Jared Paul (Tampa, Fla.) collected 11 points, four rebounds, one assist and two steals.

Trailing 27-17 with four minutes and 24 seconds remaining in the first half, Castleton went on a 10-1 run to close the gap to 28-27 headed into intermission. Dammy Mustapha (Bellows Falls, Vt.) highlighted the run with two made free throws and a resounding rejection of Brooks Spaulding's (Fairfield, Maine) attempted layup just before time expired.

Down 56-53 in the second half at 5:14, sophomore guard Eric Modica (Kittery, Maine) buried a three-pointer on a feed from teammate Luis Medina (Hartford, Conn.) to tie the contest at 56-56.

After turnovers by both squads on the next two possessions, Knight responded for Castleton with a jumper at 3:53 to take a slim 58-56 lead, the last the Spartans garnered in the contest.

Husson followed with four consecutive free throws - two from McMorrin and a pair from Uhrin - to take a 60-58 lead. At 1:31, Comstock knotted up the contest at 60-60 with a pair of free throws of his own before Uhrin's heroics with four seconds remaining in the game.

The Eagles outrebounded the Spartans 47-27 with 17 coming on the offensive glass. Husson shot 37.5 percent from the field (21-56) and 69.0 percent (20-29) from the line. Castleton went 16-for-51 from the field, 31.4 percent, and 26-for-33 from the charity stripe (78.8%).

Husson returns home on Tuesday for a 5:30 clash with Maine-Farmington.
