Box Score Bangor, ME – Husson University lost to Bowdoin College Sunday by a final of 95-54. The Polar Bears used dominant low post play and game-changing three-point shooting to overcome the Eagles in the second half.
Husson kept pace with Bowdoin for the first eight minutes of the game, down only 17-14. The Eagles were led by two double-digit scorers, Marc Zaharchuk and Phil Leighton. Zaharchuk was a force in the low post, scoring ten (the first ten of the contest for Husson) of his game-high 21 points to open the game for the Eagles. Leighton added 13 points respectively, shooting 50% from the floor on the day.
The Polar Bears used a Balanced attack with six players scoring in double figures including two non-starters with seniors Will Hanley (15 rebounds, five assists) and Ryan O'Connell adding 16 points each to lead Bowdoin of Brunswick, Maine to the victory. Other contributors for the Polar Bears included sophomore Andrew Madlinger (15 points), first year student Bryan Hurley (13 points, four assists), and junior Maximilian Staiger and senior Wyatt Littles with ten points respectively.
Bowdoin extended the 17-14 score, with under 12 minutes to go in the first half, to a 45-25 halftime lead and never looked back. The largest lead of the game came with the final score as both teams utilized their benches late in the game.
With the loss the Eagles fall to 0-3 on the season and will travel to Standish, Maine Wednesday November 30th for a 7:30pm showdown with long-time rival St. Joseph's College. Bowdoin, now 3-1, will make the short trip to Gorham, Maine Tuesday the 29th to play the Huskies of Southern Maine at 7:30pm.
