Box Score Bangor, ME: The Husson University Women's soccer team sent the homecoming crowd home happy Saturday after completing a gutsy performance at Boucher Field. The lone goal of the afternoon came off the head of Amanda Gifford during a corner kick in the 90th minute to defeat the Badgers of Johnson State College 1-0.
Play was even for most of the game with Husson leading the shot category 10-5. The Eagles had three chances between the 72nd and 77th minutes as Johnson State goalie Amber McCullock registered seven saves on the day.
The Eagles were led by Katie DeShane who had three shots in 43 minutes and Becca Jones who registered two shots on net in a 90 minute effort.
Husson was awarded a corner kick in the 90th minute as Marcella Francoeur ripped the kick into the mix and Gifford appeared seemingly out of nowhere to nod the ball into the back of the net, sending the Husson heavy crowd into hysterics.
With the win the Eagles improve to 3-8, 2-1 in the NAC, and Johnson falls to 7-2 and 2-1 in the NAC.
Husson will play once again on Sunday Ocotober 2nd against the Hornets of Lyndon State college at 2:00pm. The Badgers will take the field again Sunday the 2nd at Maine Maritime in Castine at 2:00pm.
