Husson Handles Green Mountain

Box Score

Husson hosted Green Mountain College in a North Atlantic Conference game this afternoon and earned a 93-56 win.  With their fourth straight NAC win, Husson improves to 11-4 (4-0 NAC) while Green Mountain falls to 0-8 (0-4 NAC).

The clashing Eagles sparred for the first four minutes, feeling each other out as they worked up and down the floor. Eric Modica struck first for Husson, and he and Jay Uhrin each had four quick points.

Josh Jones was active on the boards, pulling down 5 rebounds on the half, mixing in a nice one handed put back for 2 of his 6 first half points. Jay Uhrin added a 3-ball the next trip down the court putting Husson ahead 25-9 with 11 minutes left in the first.

Mark Zaharchuk made his presence felt inside, leading all Eagles, pulling down 6 rebounds and adding 9 points in the first half and even running some interference from the high post when Daeshawn McMorrin dumped it over the 6'10" Sophomore to find Brooks Spaulding underneath for an easy lay-in. Brad Libby was on the money from deep range in the first half going 2-2 from behind the arc, accounting for his 6 points on the day.

Billy Fuel did his best to keep the visiting Eagles in the game adding 8 points to lead Green Mountain, but after a deep 3 miss by Patrick Dunn who was 0-4 shooting in the half, Chris Byron corralled the long rebound and went coast to coast making the floater over the much taller Felix Rojas for the final points of the half, sending the home Eagles into the locker room up 50-22.

The teams traded buckets to open up the second half, when a loose ball found its way into Josh Jones' hands for an uncontested 360 slam around 3 minutes into the second. Jones and Modica would each finish the game with just 10 points apiece.

Billy Fuel added another deep 3 with around 15 minutes, but before Green Mountain could mount a comeback Jay Uhrin silenced the visiting Eagles with his own 3 from the corner. That would be it for Uhrin, who finished with 12 points on 5-7 shooting (2-3 from 3) in limited time as Coach Caruso went to his bench early and often with a wide margin.

Zaharchuk continued to dominate inside down the stretch, with about 11 minutes left he went up for an offensive rebound, and despite being pushed to the ground with two hands in his back, put it in, and completed the three point play, stretching the Husson lead to 72-34. Zaharchuk finished the game with 18 points to lead all scorers, and added 8 boards to the cause in his 14 minutes on the day.

Up 77-45 with just under 7 minutes to play, Wes Murphy nailed a 3 from the corner out of his non-traditional release to give the host Eagles an even 80 points. A few minutes later he hit another one from the left wing, which was answered the next time down the floor by 6'9" freshman Center Felix Rojas, one of his 2 from deep on the day, giving him an even 10 points.

Billy Fuel lead the visiting Eagles with 15 points, going 4-5 from deep. Murphy finished the game with 8 points, and Tim Hughes helped Husson close it out with open looks inside to give him 9 points on the night, as Husson had the superior Eagles today, winning it 93-56.

Husson returns to action Wednesday when the Mariners from the Maine Maritime Academy visit Bangor, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 PM.  Green Mountain travels to Castleton for an 8:00 PM game.
