Box Score FARMINGTON -- Husson University scored seven times over the
opening 12:46 to take an 18-5 North Atlantic Conference East
Division women's lacrosse win over the University of Maine at
Farmington today at Prescott Field. The Beavers finished their
regular season at 4-6 (3-3 in the NAC), while the Eagles closed out
their campaign at 9-1-1 (6-0).
Husson is scheduled to host the NAC East Division championship
round on Saturday with the top-seeded Eagles taking on No. 4 Thomas
College at noon followed by the second-ranked Beavers versus No. 3
Green Mountain College at 2:30 p.m. The final is scheduled for 1
p.m. with the winner advancing to face the NAC West winner on May 1
at Green Mountain.
Megan Clement (Brunswick, ME) tallied six goals and an assist to
power Husson, while Shelby Bradford (Lee, ME) added four tallies,
an assist and game-highs in ground balls (12) and draw controls
(8). Kim Gambon (Walpole, MA) pitched in two goals and an assist in
the win with Megan O'Neil (Hartford, VT) scoring twice and Nikki
Burns (South Berwick, ME), Stephanie Eaton (Pittston, ME), Alex
Huffman (North Hampton, NH) and Alex Laniewski (Scarborough, ME)
each adding a goal.
Alyssa Neptune (Readfield, ME) converted a free-position shot and
assisted on a score for the Beavers, who were outshot 40-18 (28-9
in the opening half). Jess Allen (Mexico, ME), Kara Hudson (Wells,
ME), Ashley Roderigue (Belgrade, ME) and Ashley Wentworth (North
Berwick, ME) each had a goal.
Wentworth and Andrea Knox (North Waterboro, ME) split netminding
duties for Farmington. Wentworth stopped nine shots and Knox made
five saves.
Kristen Capen (Leeds, ME) recorded nine saves for the Eagles.
Clement and Bradford each netted a pair of goals to lead Husson's
opening charge. Roderigue briefly cooled the visitors when she
scored off a Neptune feed at 16:35 to make it 7-1, but Clement
cashed in a free-position bid 25 seconds later to set off a 6-0
stretch for the Eagles before taking a 14-2 lead into
intermission.
After Allen scored to open the second half, Clement quelled any
hopes of a Beaver rally with two more goals to push the advantage
to 16-3 11:13 into the second half as the Eagles cruised to the
18-5 final.
