(Kenduskeag, ME) notched a double-double to lead the visitors to an
86-66 victory over Green Mountain College in North Atlantic
Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon. Husson
improves to 10-5 (4-1, NAC) while the Eagles fall to 4-9 and 1-3 in
conference play.
MacKenzie notched six points in the opening five minutes,
spurring a 12-3 Husson run. GMC stemmed the tide on a
three-pointer by senior Rui Carmo (Cape Coral, FL) and at the nine
minute mark trailed by nine before Bradford dilled a three of his
own to begin a 9-0 run for the visitors. Bradford, 3-for-6
from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes, drilled his last
bucket with 10 ticks remaining, sending the visitors in the locker
room with a 17 point advantage.
Husson shot 52.8 percent from the field in the 1st
half, were 5-for-10 from beyond the arc, and held a slim 23-22
margin on the glass.
GMC closed the gap to 11 with seven minutes gone in the second
half, but Husson exploded on a 23-10 run over the ensuing seven
minutes, capped off by a Mackenzie free throw, grabbing an
insurmountable 24 point lead (81-57).
Four Husson players reached double-digit points with MacKenzie
leading the way followed by Jay Uhrin's (Winterport, ME) 19 on 8-14
shooting, Bradford's 13, and Joshua Jones (Jefferson, ME) who
chipped in with 10 points and seven boards. As a team, Husson
shot 50 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from beyond the arc
while holding a 48-41 advantage on the boards including 12
offensive rebounds.
Carmo lead the Eagles with a game-high 34 points, nine rebounds,
three blocks, and three steals. Gerard Johnson (Binghamton,
NY) notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards, while
Trent Morgan (Streetsboro, OH) dropped 13 points and dished seven
assists.
